5 day whirlwind - Paris and Rome

Last Wednesday was labor day in Europe. What does that mean for me? Besides the fact that EVERY, SINGLE place in Europe was closed it meant that I got off school on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday! Soooo I took off with Gabi to Paris and Rome!

Paris was a whirlwind! We showed up Wednesday night and found a place to eat right away! I tried snails (which were way better than I thought they would be), ate chicken, salmon, chocolate mousse and apple tart!! The next morning we woke up super early, saw the notre dame, went to the Louve (but not inside because of the 2.5hour line), climbed the arc de triomphe, and went to the eiffel tower. We struggled to find lunch, but finally found delicious paninis and ate strawberry and nutella crepes for dessert!! We took about 5zillion eiffel tower pics, drank coffee at a cute café, and then went to the moulin rouge area to a pub and then ate dinner! We were absolutely exhausted at night when we got off the metro stop, walked the wrong way, and hailed a cab because we were too scared to walk a second longer. After safely getting inside we passed out and prepared to wake up early again the next day!

The second full day in Paris we went to Versailles! We waited in line for about an hour and met this very cute couple in line who were newly wed and both successful and traveling the world! We hoped that we could say the same for ourselves in 10 years! The palace was beautiful and our favorite part was Marie Antoinette's living quarters! After Versaille we took off to Rome!!

Arriving in Rome we ate Pizza at midnight and then hailed a way too expensive cab to our 2 minute away hostel! Once arriving we were transferred to another hostel because the one we booked was full! Waking up the next morning we found our location in the city to be PERFECT!! We walked 5 minutes and arrived at the Colosseum and Roman Forum! We waited in the roman forum line which was only 20 minutes and then later we went to the Colosseum and were able to skip the whole line!! It was amazing! The ruins were beautiful and we learned all about Julius Ceaser and Augustus! The Colosseum was also great and we loved taking corny pictures!! Our lunch was the most delicious food ever! White wine, seafood pizza, and garlicy pasta! After lunch we went to the Vatican city and went to St. Peter's Basilica. The sistine chapel closed early so we couldn't go in, but we ended our Vatican trip with some gelato (I had coconut and mixed berry). In the evening we went to the Trevi fountain took MORE pictures and ate another delicious meal!!

We ended our trip to Rome in the rain (typical), but we made the most of it by walking to the Spanish steps and ending by eating spaghetti and clams and a mozzarella and tomato pizza!! The flight home was bumpy and long, but we were glad to land and never fly Ryanair again!!
